St. Croix is the largest island of the Virgin Islands. It is 22 by seven miles wide and contains two major cities, Frederiksted and Christiansted. Altogether, the island’s population, as of 2010, was 50,600. What stands out to visitors such as Serena Burkard many years ago is its highest point, Mount Eagle. At 1,165 feet, one can gaze out over the entire island from its peak and see the surrounding ocean and islands as well. The United States purchased the island, along with St. Thomas and St. John in 1916. In 1927, the US granted all of St. Croix’s inhabitants citizenship and declared it an official US territory. Serena Burkard hopes to visit its beautiful beaches and villages again soon.

Serena Burkard still enjoys to travel, and hopes to visit some islands she has not seen before with her family. When Serena Burkard gets the bug again to travel the world, she has a list of places Serena Burkard wants to spend her time.
